Åre

Åre is a traditional mountain village but with its skiing, shopping, restaurants and bars it has a real metropolitan vibe.

It’s the largest mountain and alpine sports resort in Sweden and whilst renowned for its great slopes, Åre is not just a winter ski resort but a year-round destination too. It has an incredible atmosphere that is hard to beat and has been repeatedly called one of the world's best ski resorts by international travel magazines.

Åre is 'five villages in one resort' and each village has its own ski area. The villages have a combined total of 41 lifts and 90 slopes. Duved and Tegefjäll, Åre By and Åre Björnen have skiing to suit all levels.

Duved is the second largest ski area but despite this, it’s pace is calm. The skiing is so good here that even the ski instructors and the professionals come here to ski on their days off! Duved and Tegefjäll have light and powdery snow and with so many slopes available are less busy than the other villages. Duved installed Scandinavia's first six-seater chair-lift with a plastic hood for weather protection. It cut the previous bottom-to-top ascent time from 45 minutes to just over five minutes!

Åre By is the place to be if you like a place with energy. Åre town has many hills, varying terrain and modern lift systems offering the best skiing in Scandinavia.

Åre Björnen is the ideal spot for families with children. The slopes are child and beginner friendly and there’s lots of activities for children too.

Huså is known for its 8km off-piste trail which can be reached from Åre itself if you take the snowcat up from the top of the cable car in high season. It’s always recommended that you go there with a guide. On-piste choices include the World Cup Downhill and the famous Hummelbranten mogul (bumps) run.
